The Cumberland hotel was, for the first time, the setting for the 2016 Computing Security Awards ceremony. MC for the evening was former England Cricket Captain, Chris Cowdrey. He was assisted in presenting the awards by Comedian, Stephen Grant, as well as Dave Bonner and Brian Wall from Computing Security.

Some new categories were introduced this year to recognise some increasingly important areas in security. In addition, right across the board there were many, many new contenders and several first-time winners proving that past performance is no guarantee of future success.

GhangorCloud was one of the successful newcomers. Its Information Security Enforcer impressed the voters to become the DLP Solution of the Year. The product also impressed judge, Brian Wall, to win the Editors Choice. Varonis' work for Union Bank won the Security Project of the Year for the Private Sector. The company had already scooped the Auditing / Reporting Solution of the Year. Egress achieved a similar feat in winning the Cloud Security Solution of the Year and the Project of the Year - not for Profit Sector for its work with Victim Support. Jason Hart of Gemalto won the Personal Contribution to IT Security Award. Lastly but definitely not least, a mention for Malwarebytes who won the Anti Malware Solution of the Year award and then collected a second trophy after being voted Security Company of the Year.

Finally, a message to the vendors who may already be looking ahead to the next awards - whether your solutions are brand new or well-established, you can ensure they are contenders for the Editors Choice award in 2017 by having them independently reviewed for Computing Security magazine.
